March Featured Artist
Azareah York is an Atlanta-born and raised interpretive portrait artist whose work explores emotion, presence, and the inner life. Art has been her primary outlet since childhood, serving as both a form of expression and a way to process the world around her.
Raised in an artistic family, York was deeply influenced by her late grandmother, a painter who worked extensively with oil pastels and instilled a love of creating at a very young age. This early exposure shaped York’s commitment to art as a lifelong practice and foundation for connection, reflection, and storytelling.
Working primarily in ink, York creates highly detailed stipple portraits—drawing entirely with dots—through a slow, meditative process rooted in observation and likeness. Her work explores the emotional highs and lows of life, allowing subtle symbolism and psychological depth to emerge over time.
York’s current practice is evolving toward a more surreal and symbolic visual language while remaining grounded in portraiture. In addition to her studio work, she is opening portrait commissions and developing a nonprofit workshop initiative focused on making art accessible, non-intimidating, and community-centered, exploring creativity as a tool for healing and shared experience.
